Santa Barbara, CA 93101
Price: $10 at the door

The Sally Cats (singer Sally Barr, saxman Tom Buckner, bassist James Connolly, & guitarist Brad Rabuchin) are gearing up for a great show this August at the Piano Kitchen. Joining the band for the night are extra special guests, drummer Tom Lackner and trumpeter Nate Birkey. “It’s quite a thrill to have Tom & Nate joining us, they are both such giant musicians,” said singer Sally Barr. “They are uniquely creative artists, I can’t wait to work with them again.”

The Sally Cats’ new genre-crossing album, On the Prowl, received high marks on the Roots Music Authority website, NoDepression.com. Critic Eric Taylor wrote of “the group’s bracing energy and spellbinding versatility…. On ‘Sugar Mama,’ Barr really displays her range, her voice occupying the space between the fragile melancholy of folk and the deep passion of the blues. The production is clean and lean, perfectly capturing the layers of emotion in her vocals. It is tremendous stuff.”

On “You Don’t Know What Love Is,” from the Sally Cats’ first album, Wonderful Day “Barr plumbs the depth of despair with unguarded fragility”…. “top-drawer veteran players” who “continually strut their brilliance.” Robert Sutton, Jazz Corner
